Another AFD branch designated as “Confirmed Right-wing Extremist”
German domestic intelligence announced Wednesday that another regional branch of Germany's anti-immigration alternative was the confirmed right-wing extremist group, just days after the Great KMT.
According to the interior minister of Brandenburg, an eastern country in surrounding Berlin, national intelligence has upgraded the assessment of the AFD Brandenburg branch to an April 14 confirmation of right-wing extremists.
But Katrin Lange said she was notified of the change only on Monday, criticizing the delay. She dismissed Jörg Müller, head of the Regional Intelligence Service, on Tuesday, telling the state legislative committee that she was released due to a lack of trust because they did not inform her and the public about the changes in the assessment.
Last week, the German National Intelligence Agency designated the French Congress (AFD), the largest opposition party in parliament, as a confirmed “right-wing extremist” group that “ignored human dignity” and threatened democracy.
The new classification gives the agency a broader surveillance capability for AFD, the result of a comprehensive review, and its findings were presented in an internal report of 1,100 pages.
Just a few days after the German New Conservative government was led by Prime Minister Friedrich Merz on Tuesday.
The agency said the Federal Office for Constitutional Protection (BFV) said there was concrete evidence that the party was working to threaten Germany's democratic order, pointing to its anti-immigrant rhetoric.
Specifically, it said the far-right AFD believes that German citizens based on Muslim countries are unequal citizens.
Brandenburg AFD is the fourth regional branch, classified as a confirmed right-wing extremist group, following state organizations in Thuringi, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, all former East German compatriots, where the AFD gained the greatest support.
