Auger-Alasim continues to dominate Rotterdam indoor hard courts; De Minaur beats Wawrinka – Tennis Now

Felix Auger-Aliassime still feels at home on indoor hard courts, even though he’s far away from his hometown of Montreal.
The 2022 champion and world No. 6, who leads all players in indoor wins this decade (91), extended his winning streak to six matches with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Serbian Hamad Medjedovic to reach the quarterfinals in Rotterdam for the fourth time in his career (2020, 2022-23, 2026).
The 25-year-old successfully defended his title in Montpellier last week, scoring 36 of his 60 points and 7 of his 9 points at the net to improve his season record to 7-2. He will next face Dutchman Talon Grikspoor.
Auger-Aliassime has been broken just once in his six-game winning streak, and he saved the only break point he faced against Mededovic on Thursday.
“He hits hard,” Auger-Aliassime said of the Serbian. “All in all it was a great performance to go out in straight sets – I felt he was the better player at times in the second set.”
Auger-Aliassime broke serve in every set, including one at 4-4 in the second set, when he fought back from 0-40 down to break at 5-4. He scored nine of the final 11 points to end the game in 90 minutes.
On a busy Thursday in Rotterdam, top seed Alex de Minaur defeated 40-year-old Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 6-2, while Botik van der Zandschulp defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-6(4).
Former champion Wawrinka played his last match in Rotterdam.

“He’s a legend; he’s an icon,” De Minaur said. “What he accomplished on the court during the Big Three/Big Four era was just unbelievable. As a fan of the game, it’s amazing to be able to beat these guys off the court the way he did.
“Not only was he a legend on the field, he was a legend off the field as well. I trained countless times with him when I was younger and he had nothing but the utmost respect for me – he was an incredible human being.”
With this win, De Minaur became the second player after Roger Federer to reach five consecutive quarterfinals in Rotterdam.
Van der Zandschulp and de Minaur will meet in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Jaume Munar defeated fifth seed Karen Khachanov 7-6(8), 3-6, 6-3.
