Ben Shelton has withdrawn from the Telecom Mexico event presented by HSBC to focus on recovery, the event announced on Friday.
The southpaw won his first title of the season last week in Dallas, defeating fellow American Taylor Fritz in the ATP 500 final. According to an announcement from the Acapulco tournament, Shelton experienced discomfort in his quadriceps, leading to his decision to withdraw from the ATP 500 event in Mexico.
The 23-year-old is off to a fast start in 2026, reaching the quarter-finals in Auckland, the Australian Open and lifting the trophy in Dallas. According to the Infosys ATP Win-Loss Index, he is 10-2 this season.
The ninth-ranked player in the PIF ATP rankings has competed in Acapulco three times before, with his best result coming in 2024 when he advanced to the quarter-finals but lost to Caspar Ruud in three sets.
