Boat crashes to kill 20 feet of whale in Jersey water

A boat collided with a whale on the Jersey coast Saturday afternoon, killing a 20-foot-long animal and throwing a passenger onto the boat.

Social media video shows the boat swaying as it hits a whale as rowers are thrown into the waters of Banergat Bay, New Jersey. The mammal can then be seen – later identified as a small whale – and then slowly wanders from the container.

“Oh my goodness, they’re going.” The testimony of this incident can be heard in the dramatic video. “Oh, man!”

According to CBS News, officials said the person sent it is believed to be OK.

The Marine Mammal Stranding Center said it first warned the whales about 2:45 p.m. Saturday. The animal rescue department said it received a call from New Jersey police that the mammal was found near the entrance to Banergat Bay.

According to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, less than an hour later, rowers in the area reported the collision.

It was later found that the mammal died in shallow water outside the passage. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center said the whale carcasses are scheduled to move to a nearby state park for an autopsy Monday morning.

For their own safety, rowers were urged to be at least 150 feet away from the whale’s remains during this period.
