Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori achieved stunning results with their home support in Sunday night’s Nitto ATP Finals.

Seeking a second consecutive appearance in Turin’s prestigious season final, the Italian pair sought a fast start as they defeated top seeds Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool 7-5, 6-3 in a raucous atmosphere at the Inalpi Stadium. According to Infosys ATP statistics, Borelli and Valvasoli seized their chances in the 82-minute match, saving two of the three break points they had.

Bolelli and Vavassori now lead 1-0 in the Peter Fleming group, making a perfect start to their first Nitto ATP Finals semi-finals. The pair also extended Lexus ATP Head2Head’s lead over Cash and Glasspool to 3-1.

Despite missing out on victory in their debut at the Nitto ATP Finals, which would have also sealed the year-end ATP Doubles No. 1 ranking awarded by the PIF, Cash and Glasspool are still in a good position to become the world’s top team by the end of the year. The British team is 1,305 points ahead of second-placed Harry Heliovara and Henry Patten in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Team Rankings. Heliovara and Patten will take part in the opener in Turin on Monday.
