Bristol Palin says facial paralysis recovers 70% after diagnosis

Bristol Palin provides fans with the latest news about her ongoing health struggle.

In Instagram Q&A, Palin was asked specific questions about how she handles the struggle for facial paralysis and specific symptoms she felt before experiencing facial muscle weakness.

She said in response to a question: “I woke up and it was completely paralyzed from the blue – no warning, no illness, no v@x, no botulinum toxin lately…just paralyzed.”

The answer was posted on her own video, showing the difference between the left and right sides of her face and adding the January 20, 2025 timestamp.

The former reality TV star was later asked how she emotionally handled the diagnosis, and she replied that she thought she was “handled well” but admitted that “I can’t see my own photos RN.” Palin also shared that her paralysis “is about 70% back to normal.”

Other fans were concerned that paralysis could be permanent, Palin replied, “But I don’t think so.”

“This is slowly improving,” she wrote in her answer. “My doctor thinks I *hope* back to normal people and it’s another 3 months.”

Palin first announced that she suddenly experienced facial paralysis during her Instagram story in January. In the story, she recalls waking up one morning, “a little weird feeling on my face” and only a few hours later, “the entire left side of my face was numb and just paralyzed.”

After seeing a doctor and having multiple tests, “none of the results came back”, when she was prescribed “steroids” and “other drugs.” One of the possible reasons could be the “Bell’s paralysis case,” doctors noted, which could be caused by stress or lack of sleep.

According to Mayo Clinic, Bell’s paralysis is a disease that causes “a sudden weakness of muscles on one side of the face.” Weaknesses are usually short-term, and the exact reason is not yet clear.

After sharing facial paralysis for a few months, Palin went to social media in April 2025 to share that she had been awake for a year.

“But having a completely sober mind this year has allowed me to reevaluate a lot,” she continued. “I don’t want to change my mind and don’t want to ‘stand out’ anything. 10/10 will recommend.”
