Britain’s first railway therapy dog starts working to help anxious passengers

The first treatment dog in the UK to work for the railway company, the six-year-old German Shepherd NYA, has begun helping passengers relieve anxiety about the Transpennine Express train. The NYA is owned by former police officer Stephen O’Callaghan, NAYA visited radio stations across the country to interact with passengers and staff to improve mood and social interaction. Registered in Pet As Treatment, she was trained to stay calm, receive pats, and even performing skills to make her both effective and entertaining. Her success inspired other train companies, including the North, to consider introducing therapeutic dogs on their services.
