Bronx residents assault occupational criminal offenses after attempted rape: Report

In a midday attack that struck the Bronx community, a 50-year-old professional criminal allegedly attempted to rape a 70-year-old woman in wide sunlight – reportedly only being beaten by angry local residents the next day.

According to a press release from the New York City Police Department, the incident unfolded at around 1 p.m. Friday, April 18.

Police said the suspect was later identified as Oswaldo Ramos, approaching the elderly woman from behind and attempting to sexually assault her before escaping the scene on foot.

But the community is not trying to make the attack unanswered.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) released a surveillance video showing Ramos' moments following the alleged attack, scrambling to pull her pants back.

The department’s video is a call from the department’s public appeal for identifying suspects and is quickly dispersed online and among local residents. It was this video that helped neighborhood alerts identify Ramos, according to the New York Post.

Vigilantes got into trouble on the blocks near Tiebout Avenue and East 187th Street and defeated him on Saturday, the store reported.

“Yes, we beat him up,” a local resident told The Post, demanding that he remain anonymous. “You don't do that, that's something you don't do. If he comes back, I'll shock him again.”

Another neighbor supported him and said: “We don't tolerate that kind of thing here.” Others in the area reportedly helped comfort the elderly immediately after the attack.
