Cable theft in Spain delays thousands of high-speed rail passengers

Madrid (AP) – Spain was stolen at four locations, and cables used in cables used in high-speed line signaling systems between Madrid and Seville were stolen at four locations.
The theft in the second half of Sunday affected dozens of trains traveling between Madrid and Andalusia, just as many people returned to the capital after a holiday weekend.
On Monday, many travelers crowded Madrid's Atocha Station sought information about their trains from railway staff and screens, as the departure time was updated. Spain's state-owned railway operator Renfe told passengers that the train left Madrid before 8 a.m. to avoid early arrivals and avoid further congestion.
Alberto Valero and his family spent several hours at the station before 9am due to delays on the train line connecting Madrid and Sevilla. Valero is on vacation from Mexico and expresses frustration at the lack of information.
“We are here with tourists from all over the world – France, Portugal,” Valero said. “Everyone is overwhelmed by the total chaos.”

The incident came a week after a massive power outage in Spain and a massive power outage in high-speed train traffic in Portugal, Spain, and stopped thousands of passengers.
