Canada will host Israel in the Davis Cup World Group of my tie Canadian Tennis announced today.
Fans will not be allowed when Canada hosts Israel in Halifax.
Tennis Canada announced that it had decided to sign after “continuously improving on safety issues” in consultation with the International Tennis Federation.
“Intel from local authorities and national security agencies, coupled with interruptions witnessed in other recent events in Canada and internationally, suggests the risk of significant interference in this incident,” Tennis Canada said.
To ensure the safety of players, coaches, ball kids, staff and fans, Canadian tennis has chosen to wear tie on closed venues.
“At the heart of this difficult decision, it’s our responsibility to protect people while making sure this Davis Cup tie can still be played,” said Gavin Ziv, CEO of Tennis Canada. “We were forced to conclude that playing behind closed doors was the only way to maintain participants and preserve the event itself.
“While this result is disappointing, it allows tie to be played in Halifax and ensures that our athletes can continue to compete at the highest international level. We look forward to returning to Halifax with Canada in the coming years to ensure we can achieve our mission of promoting tennis and create opportunities for fans and players to engage with Nova Scotia and across the country.”
For fans who have purchased tickets, “the conductor of the tie will receive a full refund within 30 days,” Canadian Tennis said in a statement.
