Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigns after health reasons

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar formally resigned on Monday (July 21), citing health issues and the need to prioritize medical advice.

Resignation is on the first day of the parliamentary monsoon meeting

His resignation was filed under Article 67(a) of the Indian Constitution, which was effective immediately.

In a resignation letter to Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar expressed deep gratitude to her unwavering support and the kind working relationship they shared during their tenure. h

Dhankar also expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers.

“I am very grateful for the valuable experience and insights I have gained as the Vice President of our great democracy,” he wrote, adding that the warmth and trust received from the members of Parliament will always remain in his heart.

Dhankhar also said it was an honor to witness India’s extraordinary economic growth and historical development. He expressed confidence in the bright future of the country and its growing impact on the global stage.

“When I left this respected office, I was proud of the global rise and amazing achievements of Bharat,” he said.

Jagdeep Dhankhar serves as India’s 14th Vice President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha from August 11, 2022. His term was originally scheduled to end in August 2027.

The resignation brought unexpected endings to his term, which was active parliamentary participation and strong support for government policies.
