Capson wins Sioux Falls Challenge, ranks 20th among U.S. men – Tennis Now

After Patrick Kypson rallied to beat Britain’s unseeded Johannus 6-7(2), 7-6(4), 7-5 on Sunday, statistics expert Greg Sharko said the American man will win his 20th Challenger title in 2025, the most in history, breaking the record set in 2006.
There was just one break of serve in the two-hour, 34-minute championship match, with the only double fault of the match coming in the 11th game of the third set on Monday. This was the only break point the 23-year-old left-hander faced in the match.
Capson earned $22,733 for the title.
“That was the key, whoever was going to break was probably going to take the lead and I was lucky enough to stay strong when I faced break points,” said Kipson, who saved all six break points he faced in the match. “I was lucky enough to grab the only break point late in the game.”
Kypson, a former All-American at Texas A&M, was ranked as low as No. 455 on April 7
He was out of training for three months due to a stress fracture in his left foot. The 25-year-old North Carolina native underwent surgery in January and returned to tour in April.
Capson’s ranking will rise from 166th to 146th. Since returning, Capeson has won titles on clay, outdoor hard courts and indoor hard courts this season. He is the third American since 1978 to accomplish the feat, joining Robby Ginepri (2002) and Michael Russell (2009).
Capeson also moved up to second place in the Australian Open Wild Card Challenge standings. The current leader is former Texas player Eliot Spizzirri, who finished second in Sunday’s Brest, France challenge.
