Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from Spain’s upcoming Davis Cup quarter-final match against the Czech Republic in Bologna on Thursday, November 20, due to a right hamstring injury.
The PIF ATP No. 1 player lost to Jannik Sinner in Sunday’s Nitto ATP Finals championship, requiring a medical timeout to have his leg bandaged in the final. Alcaraz arrived in Italy on Monday but decided to evacuate and return home after undergoing tests.
“It is with great regret that I announce that I will not be able to play for Spain in the Davis Cup match in Bologna,” Alcaraz wrote on X on Tuesday morning. “I have developed edema in my right hamstring and the medical advice is not to play. I’ve always said playing for Spain is the greatest thing and I’m really looking forward to helping out at the Salad Bowl [trophy]. I’m going home…”

The Spanish team is captained by David Ferrer and includes Jaume Munar, Pedro Martinez and Pablo Carreno Busta. They will face the Czech Republic, led by Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik, on Thursday at 10am CET, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals to face either Argentina or Germany.
Alcaraz ends his 2025 season with a tour-leading 71 wins and eight titles, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. He shares four majors with Sinner and leads the Italian 10-6 in the Lexus ATP Head2Head series, winning four of this year’s six finals showdowns.
