National football star Christian Pulisic’s decision to skip the Golden Cup this summer turned into a massive debate, but he didn’t motivate his decision.

Pulisic spoke with CBS Sports Golazo Network’s “Call It What You Want” for the first time since he made the decision to explain why he didn’t regret the decision.

More importantly, he also called those who questioned his commitment to the national team “a way out.”

Former American football star Landon Donovan is one of those who think Pulisic’s decision is not a good decision.

“That’s what it means to represent your country. [Ronaldo’s] 40 years old. He played for a long season. He is very tired. He polished there, hurting himself in the process. And I can’t help but think of some of our holidays who don’t want to play on the Golden Cup. Donovan said on Fox radio of the UEFA Champion: “It’s P —-I’m disappointed.

Although he did not name Donovan, Prisch fired a shot at his haters.

“Whatever you want, you can talk about my performance. But I think my commitment, especially to the national team, is organic,” he said.

“I just don’t understand why so many people are emitting these people so big when they are going through difficult times.

Prisic said his decision was made after listening to his body at the end of the season with AC Milan.

“My body just started talking to me, my thoughts,” he explained. “And I started thinking, ‘What’s the best option for me to get into the World Cup next year?’ And there’s another eight games and then there’s no rest at all, go straight into the preseason, then work out for another season, and then go straight into the World Cup?

“I have to make the best decision for myself and my team in the long run.”

Pulisic added that he asked the U.S. national team coach if he could compete in two friendly matches with Türkiye and Switzerland, which were warm-up matches before the Golden Cup. Staff told him no, Prisci said they wanted a “one lineup” for the friendly match and the Golden Cup.

“I totally respect that,” Pulisic added. “I don’t understand, but that’s it.”

Pulisic said it was hard to hear criticism from former players, especially when he revealed that some of them “apparently want to show support, be your friend and everything. Then they say something different on the ground openly.”

“I look up to the guys who grew up,” he said. “Some of them are my idols. I respect them very much.”
