Custom furniture launch Roomix raises £850,000 to expand home-first design mission

UK-based custom furniture brand Roomix has received a fresh investment of £850,000 to accelerate its growth and reimagine how families can provide homes. Since its launch in 2022, the Funding Tour has increased the total number of the startup to £1 million.
Founded by Shona Chalmers and Mark Apter, Roomix aims to make custom furniture easier to use in modern homes. The company connects customers to a nationwide network of artisan joinery workshops that produce custom-made, customizable pieces designed to adapt as families grow and grow.
New funds support the expansion of Roomix to new categories and markets with simple scaling, group rooms and many sector-centric angel investors (including fuel venture capital support). The capital will also be used to strengthen its supply chain and enhance the platform’s supplier portal – proprietary technology that can be effectively coordinated with local manufacturers.
Roomix launched a successful 200k crowdfunding campaign, positioning itself as an alternative to fast furniture. Its zero statement model reduces waste and enables affordable personalization with faster delivery times. Each piece is for ordering, cutting back on traditional warehousing and mass production.
“Our mission is to bring real custom designs to everyday homes,” said Shona Chalmers, co-founder and CEO. “We have designed Roomix to deliver high-quality, durable furniture, from nurseries and home offices to multi-purpose living spaces. This funding provides us with momentum to expand this task with new innovations and a wider network of skilled manufacturers.”
Roomix is rooted in Montessori Principles’ best-selling toddler furniture collection. Popular items include toddler towers, weaning tables and adjustable tables that develop as children develop. Security, features and style are at the heart of Roomix’s offer, with optional add-ons and custom features designed to fit a single family lifestyle.
As part of the expansion, Roomix recently underwent a brand refresh and launched a new website to support its growing customer base and expand its product catalog. With the increasing demand for sustainability, design alternatives, the company is favorable in leading the emerging “slow furniture” movement.
“Consumers are tired of abandoned products that don’t last or fit their space,” Chalmers said. “By combining craftsmanship with modern convenience, Roomix is redefining the look of custom furniture for young families.”
The business plans to leverage new investments to grow its operations in the UK and Europe, develop new home-first product lines, and further invest in logistics and operational technologies to simplify the end-to-end customer experience.
Roomix’s model is investigating the growing demand for personalization, transparency and sustainability in home design, and these trends have only accelerated in the pandemic era. With this latest pay raise, the company is ready to challenge legacy participants and bring custom designs to mainstream families.
