DA gets 90% subsidy from farmers next year

Its chief told members of Congress at a House hearing on Monday that the Department of Agriculture (DA) will receive 80-90% of the rice plan from local farmers and other importers to receive subsidized rice plans from local farmers for 1.5 million tons.

Small Farm Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel, Jr. It said that procurement of imports would significantly cut costs, adding that it would be unsustainable to get everything locally.

“It may be controversial, but if we want to be cheap, we can purchase it completely from imported rice, which will only cost us $7 billion,” Laurel told the Philippines lawmaker.

He added that maintaining the government’s P20 per kilogram of rice plan would be difficult without continued state intervention.

Mr Laurel said the government is seeking at least 15 million households to sell cheap cereals next year.

“I don’t think it’s possible without subsidies,” he said in the Philippines. “The only country that can lower the price of rice is Vietnam.” “As for India, we really can’t compare because they provide farmers with 90% of the fertilizer for free.”

“We can’t compete with this system,” he added. Kenneth Christian L. Basilio
