Sam Altman and Jony Ive will kill AI gadgets long before killing iPhone

Again, this is an important moment for AI gadgets. This week, in a lot of news about Google’s I/O, Apple legend Jony Ive helped implement a niche gadget called The Iphone, announcing his good member with Ai Boy Genius Sam Altman, who has lived in a Ted Kaczynski-style cabin for the past few years – The faces of a dozen similar small products are called chatgpt. In the reported $6.5 billion deal, Openai plans to buy IVE and his team and put everyone on a new umbrella called IO (no contact with Google I/O).
As I wrote before, what the two are still doing is still TBD, but we do know something for sure. First, this is the hardware we are talking about, which means that you can hold a real, tangible product in your hands, or (if trustworthy) on a table and/or in a slippery pocket. Second, it will have * drum rolls, everyone*ai. It’s no surprise that AI will be at the heart of Altman and Ive’s collaboration. What AI does again is anyone’s guess, but obviously, tens of millions of gadgets are sold, or at least that’s what they hope for. Those ones It is the cold, difficult fact that we can rely on now.

Although there is no product that can be said to be consumer-prepared (at least as far as we know), the desire is high for Altman and Ive’s creation. This is especially clear if you keep reading between two lines. Although neither of them officially said so much, everything Altman and Ive created through IO will have our favorite device (mobile phone). In an interview with Stripe this month, IVE even said that the products of both were a response to the “unexpected consequences” of the iPhone. It’s not that they try to explicitly delete the phone, but it’s not, but it’s not no The same is true for this.
The tacit goal of killing or removing a smartphone may also exist in other aspects of the mysterious gadget. According to the Wall Street Journal, the device will be “unobtrusive”, which may mean a lot of things, but it may very well mean it will no There is a screen. According to Tech Insider and supply chain detective Ming-Chi Kuo, “industry research” confirms the screen-free nature of this mysterious device.
My industry research shows that the following is the new AI hardware device that Jony Ive works with OpenAI:
1. Mass production is expected to begin in 2027.
2. Rally and transportation will occur outside China to reduce geopolitical risks, Vietnam is currently… pic.twitter.com/5ielyeejnyv– Mingchi Kuo (ming-chi kuo) (@mingchikuo) May 22, 2025
So now, the picture we have is a screenless AI device that may have the intention to make the iPhone stand out. If that statement brings you déjàvu, you are not alone – it starts to feel like Humane’s Ai Pin, which is not exactly as the way its creator wants to do. Just ask HP, it’s recently purchased humane pennies to strip the company of spare parts. While a humane AI PIN may be different from anything in an IO store (I say he isn’t particularly interested in wearables in the traditional sense), it comes down to it, just like Humane’s Ai Pin. An AI-centric gadget with no screen, hoping to make the iPhone lose its iPhone.
This way, everything Altman and Ive do will be compared with AI PIN, for better or worse, will affect our current and future perceptions of AI gadgets. Actually, I think that at this moment, on the humane AI PIN and Rabbit’s R1, it’s much more important than both. Think about it: While Humane’s AI PIN aspires to be the first flagship AI device, and because of its lofty ambitions, the ultimate disappointment of AI PIN is not a huge shock. With all the respect that deserves, Imran Chaudhri and humanitarian Bethany Bongiorno, they are not as high-profile as Altman and Ive.
Altman and Ive’s shadows are higher orders of magnitude, and as a result, expectations for both are the same. On the one hand, this is an advantage, as more people may be interested in buying anything IO release, but it is also a responsibility – for Altman and Ive, it’s OK anyway, anyway, but even more so for the lifespan of AI gadgets. If Altman and Ive (and all the resources their names can summon) are not likely to work, then clicking on AI hardware is not possible WHO Will it be realized on this green earth?
So, I repeat how I started the whole idea: Yes again An important moment for AI gadgets. But maybe this statement hasn’t really been cut. Let me modify: Now Made or destroy The moment of AI gadgets. The bottom line is that either way, it doesn’t matter if Altman and Ive succeeded where humanity and rabbits failed, or if they failed more difficult than Google Glass I didn’t know. Ultimately, you still have the glass plate and everything it brings, and in your hands you will be distracted and unable to really notice.
