Danielle Collins She will miss the 2026 Australian Open while preparing for her family’s future.
Collins, a 2022 Australian Open finalist, announced she will miss the start of the 2026 season. The 32-year-old American is undergoing egg freezing surgery and recovering from a back injury that will plague her until the end of the 2025 season.
Collins, a 2019 AO semifinalist, announced on Instagram that she still has an egg-freezing procedure to complete, adding, “These hormones I have to take really suck.”
“Since everyone’s been asking, I wanted to get here and give you some updates! I’ve been taking the last few months off to recover from a season-ending back injury,” Collins posted on Instagram. “I also had some egg freezing surgery 🥳🥚 which was honestly one of the coolest things I’ve ever done! But at the same time, these hormones I had to use were real assholes 🤣🎢
“I’m so lucky to have friends who have been helping to take care of me during this time 🤍 I still have a procedure to do. Nonetheless, I will not be competing in the first half of the year.”
The Australian Open is Collins’ most successful major. In 2022, Collins swept Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-1 and entered the Melbourne Grand Slam final for the first time. Australia’s Ash Barty defeated Collins 6-3, 7-6(2) in the 2022 AO final.
Collins was in pain from significant back and arm injuries during the second half of last season, which diminished her ability to serve. Collins reached the Strasbourg semifinals on clay in May and the third round at Wimbledon, but has fallen to 4-7 in her last 11 matches as she has been unable to meet her standards. Collins’ season ended when she lost to Jacqueline Christian 6-2, 6-0 in the first round of the U.S. Open.
Former world No. 7 Collins said she is likely to return to the Tennis Channel commentary room in the near future.
Last fall, Collins shared her fall dating profile, garnering interest from potential suitors in the process.
