Daniil Medvedev maintained his impressive Lexus ATP head-to-head record by reaching the tour-level quarter-finals for the 90th time when he faced Frances Tiafoe at the ANZ Brisbane International on Wednesday.
Medvedev faced no break points and won 91% (31/34) of his first-serve points en route to a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 victory in 61 minutes, according to Infosys ATP statistics.
The top seed, who is seeking his 22nd tour-level trophy this week, now leads Tiafoe 6-1 in the pair’s Head2Head series, with all seven of their matches taking place on hard courts.
“The court is quite fast, so you need to serve well, and I was happy with the way I served,” Medvedev said. “I think I played much better than in the first round and didn’t face break points, which put a lot of pressure on my opponent. I had a few good games on his serve and that was enough for today.”

Medvedev has fond memories of his time in Brisbane, reaching the finals in his only appearance in 2019. The PIF ATP Ranking No. 13 has yet to drop a set in his first two matches of 2026 and will aim to continue that form against Riley Opelka or Kamil Makhzak.
In a duel between friends, American Alex Michelson defeated fellow learner Tian 6-4, 6-2. Michelsen, 21, who has trained with Tien since they were teenagers, has gone one better at the Next Generation ATP Finals hosted by the PIF champions since their first meeting in Jeddah 13 months ago. Michelsen leads Tien 3-1 in the Head2Head series.
Michelsen will face Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinals. The 25-year-old advanced after defending champion Jiri Lehecka was forced to withdraw due to an ankle injury, with Korda leading 6-3, 1-2.
Korda’s past performance in Australia has been impressive, reaching the Adelaide finals in 2023 and 2025, and reaching the quarter-finals of the 2023 Australian Open.
