DN.J. Rep. Josh Gottheimer slams New York City’s democratic socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, who said he does not belong to the Democratic Party.
Mamdani has refused to reject the rhetoric of the “globalization uprising” since he won the Democratic primary, a bubble criticism from Republicans and Democrats, many viewed it as a call for violence, and his left-wing policy recommendations.
CNBC host Joe Kernen spoke with Gottheimer, saying he was confused about how Democrats “twisted themselves” defended the nominee.
Gottheimer argued that while some of his Democrats might be more ambiguous, he condemned Mamdani directly.

“You don’t hear any ambiguity from my mouth,” Gotwimmer said. “We don’t need a socialist who wants to raise taxes and support anti-Semitic rhetoric. Right? In the country’s highest taxation city and the largest Jewish population.”
Nen believes that when considering the current state of the Democratic Party, it should be possible to say, “We don’t need to turn left.”
“We need common sense,” Gottheimer said. “Democrats, we are willing to solve problems and make people’s lives more affordable and actually make sure places work. Whether it’s rent or our mortgage, we do everything we can to make people’s lives more affordable.”
Then, he made a clear statement: “Democratic socialists are not Democrats. They are not in the Democratic Party.”

He said: “Bernie Sanders is an independent man. He is not even a Democrat. Right? I don’t know why we follow this approach.” We want common sense, rationality, and that’s what we need in our country… Obviously, we don’t need socialism or tax increases, nor do we need people who are tolerating anti-Semitic rhetoric, which I find is annoying. ”
Mamdani said he will start to dissuade the expression of the “uprising” this week, and he has repeatedly refused to condemn him in previous interviews.
