Deped expands kindergarten enrollment deadline

The Ministry of Education (DEPED) announced Thursday that it has revised its admission policy for kindergartens to allow more students to attend formal education.
“The move is designed to provide a more inclusive and developing registration window, especially for families with children born later this year,” it said in a press release.
Under Deped Order No. 15. In 2025, the permitted deadline for five-year-old children has been extended from August 31 to October 31.
The department said the initiative was with Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.
Education Minister Juan Edgardo “Sonny” M.
He added: “By allowing for increased flexibility in the age needs of kindergartens, we ensure that every learner has the opportunity to be strong and successful from day one.”
After completing a one-year Early Childhood Development (ECD) program at a recognized Child Development Center or Learning Center, you can also enjoy admission to children aged five years between November 1 and December 31, or through an ECD list managed during the admission period and during the first week of the course.
The department notes that while private schools are also required to comply with the revised policy, they can still conduct their own preparatory assessments as part of the admission process.
In 2024, more than 1.8 million students were recruited among 26.4 million learners in public and private schools, including overseas Philippine schools.
Through the revised policy, the department expects that from June 9 to 13, more students will participate in the national enrollment period of public schools and then open courses on June 16. – Almira Louise S. Martinez
