DGCA cracked down on Air India for dispatch violations; 3 senior officials were removed from office, notice of reasons for performance

In a major regulatory crackdown, the Civil Aviation Administration (DGCA) has been removed from three senior Air India officials due to serious mistakes in crew arrangements. The aviation regulator observed that crew members were assigned responsibilities without observing permit requirements, rest time requirements and operating specifications.

According to DGCA, the airline violated critical safety protocols by participating in non-compliant crew pairing, violating licensing and fixed rules, and operating with a flawed dispatch system.

In view of the findings of the report, DGCA directed immediate dismissal and departmental litigation began within 10 days. Officials were also placed in non-operating positions, awaiting further action.

The regulator’s harsh warnings make the tone clear: any further violation could induce a licence suspension, impose financial fines, and even the worst punishment for canceling its operating license.

Notice of the reason for the performance on a London flight

In another but related development, DGCA also issued a display notice to Air India, allegedly violating flight tax restrictions on two international flights from Bangalore to London (AI133) from 16 to 17 May 2025.

The survey shows that according to Section 7 of Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) (CAR) (Part 3), Phase III, dated April 24, 2019, both flights exceeded the 10-hour responsibilities allowed under Section 7 of Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR).

DGCA said the top Air India safety officers did not follow regulations regarding crew hours and other safety guidelines. The airline now has a 7-day reply and explains why action should not be taken.

If Air India does not respond in time, DGCA may take action while not hearing them. This may include suspension of permits, fines or other fines.

Air India responds to DGCA notice

In response to the regulator’s actions, an Air India spokesman said: “We acknowledge the regulator’s directives and implement the order. During this period, the company’s chief operating officer will directly monitor the Integrated Operations Control Centre (IOCC). Air India is committed to ensuring full adherence to safety protocols and standard practices.”

The airline ensures corrective actions are taken to fully align with the DGCA specification and enhance internal compliance monitoring.
