Digiplus supports stricter adjustments to online gaming, urging constructive path forward

Digiplus Interactive Corp., the Philippines’ leading digital entertainment company, calls for stricter online gaming, expresses strong support for smart, balanced regulation to protect players, ensure industry responsibility and maintain the economic value generated in the legal online gaming space.

Digiplus chairman Eusebio Tanco said: “We believe regulations are the way to protect players. This is the only way to maintain players, retain jobs and close underground platforms without any supervision on illegal underground platforms.”

As the operator behind leading online gaming platforms such as Bingoplus, Arenaplus and Gamezone, Digiplus has been aligning with the principles proposed by lawmakers and advocacy groups. In fact, many of the proposed safeguards have been embedded on its platform. All users are rigorously verified by Knowledge Customer (KYC), including government ID checks and age gating. Since November 2024, there are easy access to responsible gaming features such as deposit restrictions, self-exclusion options and cooldowns.

In addition to existing tools, Digiplus has launched new plans. These include enhanced affordability checks, behavioral driving force limiting excessive gaming, and recommended avenues for licensed mental health experts. In July 2025, the company will also launch an in-app community space to attract players to conduct responsible game conversations and peer support. Responsible gaming content is now more prominent than ever in all its platforms, rather than beautifully printed, but as part of the core user experience.

The company also complies with existing advertising restrictions and is actively revising its promotional strategy in line with new government guidance. Its internal marketing requirements prohibit targeting minors, avoid portraying wealth or urgency, and exclude messaging that can be interpreted as predatory. Digiplus also works with NGOs and civil society organizations to promote financial literacy and digital responsibility among participants, which exceeds the efforts required by current laws.

Digiplus stressed that these measures are not a response to regulatory pressure, but are part of a multi-year strategy to build a responsible gaming ecosystem. The company invests in data science, player support systems and compliance technology precisely because it believes that the future of gaming depends on trust and transparency. That’s why it fully supports the latest legislation, especially the penalties for illegal operators and clearer advertising standards.

Crucially, Digiplus urges policy makers to weigh the consequences of the injunction. Experience in other countries shows that banning licensing platforms does not eliminate the need for online games, but simply transfer users to an unregulated black market without protection, taxation and sense of responsibility. By contrast, a good environment can protect participants, generate billions of dollars in revenue from government revenue and maintain over 40,000 jobs in technology, marketing, entertainment, customer service, and compliance.

“With the right rules, the Philippines can be a model for safe, transparent online games in Asia,” Tanko said. “We are ready to go hand in hand with regulators, lawmakers and community groups to make this vision real.”

As the industry continues to grow, Digiplus remains committed to adapting it, as has been done in the past two decades. As a local company listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange and now expanding to global markets, Digiplus is ready to be part of the solution: protecting consumers, maintaining public trust and maintaining responsible innovation.
