“It’s a huge surprise. It’s an honor to be here and to receive an award from another sports legend is a dream come true,” Djokovic said.

“I’m a huge fan of football. I’m here to celebrate the incredible year that everyone has had, but I was caught off guard in a positive way. I couldn’t be happier.”

“For me, he is a role model,” Ronaldo said on stage. “To me, he’s a role model for longevity. We have similar stories. I think he deserves it because he’s a great role model for this generation, all generations and future generations.”

“I’m grateful to call him a friend,” Djokovic said of Ronaldo, “and he’s also a person who inspires me.

“We have a lot of similarities, a lot of similarities, and even though we’re not in the same sport, we push each other. I think we’re also showing future generations that the sky’s the limit.”
