Dean died in March at the age of 82. Parton announced the news via Instagram, writing: “Carl and I have spent many years together. Words cannot share with us for more than 60 years of love. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”

“I’ve loved him since I was 18,” she said of Dean, who met outside the self-laundry shortly after moving to Nashville in 1964. They tied it two years later, and for decades their marriage took it out of focus.

“It’s a big tweak, just trying to change patterns and habits,” Parton added at the time. “I’ll do a great job, I’m very involved in my work, and it’s the best thing that I could possibly have happened. Of course, I always miss him and love him forever. He’s my great companion.”

She said she felt “thank you” for all the love she received from her fans.

“I got a lot of cards, letters, flowers from all over the world,” she revealed. “I didn’t know Carl Dean was so famous.”

“I just want to spend a minute thanking everyone for all the flowers and cards and the blessings because of the loss of Carl,” she said at the time. “You know how I love him, he wants me to work today. I hope to work.”
