Don’t let AI run vending machines

Hey, do you know the politicians and industry captains who told us that AI will dominate the world in a few years? It turns out to be one of the most complex models in use. Anthropic released the findings of the test, where the chatbot was taken over the “shop” (actually, some baskets, small refrigerators and payment terminals for offices). The robot was told to run the store profitably and be responsible for everything, including summoning items from “wholesalers” who will be on their shelves on their behalf.
You may be able to guess what happens next: the robot misses an easy opportunity to make money,. Worse, it will drop some weird rabbit holes, such as buying tungsten blocks and then offering them for free. It hallucinated the details of payment, tried to fire the humans who helped restock, and tried to connect with the building security, and insisted that it had a body with flesh and blood. Humans naturally say that this experiment has been a huge success and knows what to do next time to prevent AI from turning us all into paper rolls.

Self-published authors care about their livelihoods.
Kobo has built an author-friendly self-publishing platform that contrasts sharply with how Amazon’s Kindle Direct runs its business. . The company made it clear that it would not use published works to train models, but instead uses AI to evaluate the “fitness” of works for sale, generate advertising material and create reviews. Just in time for Canada Day.
There is in Canada. The tax is intended to raise some cash from the large tech companies that Canadian users make money, but don’t pay the relevant countries. Sadly, the United States stopped talks on the trade deal, calling the DST a “blatant attack” on its neighbors.
