Tesla’s first Robotaxi ride will have human “safety monitor” on board

Soon, they will experience Tesla’s Robotaxi service for the first time soon, but they will not be alone. The company plans to launch its fully autonomous ride service tomorrow in Austin, Texas, but will be accompanied by the first riders’ “Tesla Safety Monitor” based on an email invitation to “early visiting riders.” It is not clear what features the safety monitors will have, but they will be in the front passenger seat of the autonomous driving model Y.

The email outlines several parameters, including that users are limited to excluding geographical coverage of the airport, which may not be available due to bad weather and can only be called Robotaxi between 6 a.m. and midnight. Such restricted launches will be reportedly available for only 10 vehicles and will be delayed after the initial release date on June 12.

With the official date setting, Tesla currently only can use its Model Y to provide its Robotaxi service. According to the company, the robotics service will lay the foundation for the final online car launch, and the company will eventually not start production until at least 2026. Currently, Tesla’s Robotaxi service will face competition from Waymo, which began providing competitive services to Austin residents in March.
