EAM S. Jaishankar will start a three-day visit to Russia today to promote strategic partnerships

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will travel to Russia on Tuesday for a three-day official visit to deepen the long-standing strategic partnership of special and privileges for India-Russia.

The visit, originally scheduled for August 21, was invited by Russia’s first deputy prime minister Denis Manturov.

During his stay, EAM Jaishankar will co-chair on August 20 at the 26th session of India-Russia Trade, Economic, Science, Technology and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) and address the Indian-Russian Business Forum in Moscow.

EAM will hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to review various bilateral relations and share views on urgent regional and global development.

“This visit is intended to further strengthen the long-term and time-tested strategic partnership of special and privileged India-Russia,” the MEA said in a statement.

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed the meeting earlier and released it on X: “FM Sergei Lavrov’s timeline: On August 21, FM Sergei Lavrov will hold talks with Dr. S Jaishankar, India in Moscow. Ministers will discuss key issues on our bilateral agenda, as well as key aspects of cooperation within the international framework.”

EAM Jaishankar’s visit follows a recent trip to Moscow by National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval, where he held discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, first Prime Minister Manturov and Secretary-General of the Security Council Sergei Shoigu.

The upcoming talks followed closely by the Jaishankar-Lavrov meeting held on July 15 at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and their engagement at last month’s BRICS summit, where leaders considered bilateral cooperation, West Asia, Bridge and SCO.

Earlier this year, Foreign Minister Vikram Misri visited Moscow to conduct bilateral foreign ministry consultations with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko.

During the consultations on 7 March, the two sides reviewed the scope of the entire bilateral relationship and shared views on regional and global issues of common interests.
