“Francis, thank you for spending this time with us,” Raducanu posted on Instagram. “You were more than just a coach to me and I will cherish the many good times we spent together on and off the pitch.

“While we have collectively come to the conclusion that we should not move forward, please know that I deeply appreciate everything you have taught me and have loved the time we have spent together.”

The 23-year-old Raducanu, who has a 3-3 record this season, foreshadowed Roig’s fate after she lost to Anastasia Potapova 7-6(3), 6-2 in the second round of the Australian Open. After that loss, Raducanu questioned the tactics she employed under coach Roig.

“I think I want to play in a different way and I think the inconsistency between the way I’m playing now and the way I want to play is something I want to address,” Raducanu said at Melbourne Park. “I think there’s definitely some part of me that’s playing the way I want to play, and it’s going to pop up, which is positive, maybe more positive than at some points in my career over the last few years. But it’s not what I want, like every day.

“So it won’t be there right away, but the harder I work on how to play, the more my identity will be evident every time I step on the court.”

Raducanu’s coaching has become an annual or semi-annual event.

The 57-year-old Roig once served as Nadal’s coach for a long time, later coached Berrettini, and has coaching experience on the WTA Tour. Roeg reached a career-high ranking of No. 60 on the ATP Tour and also coached the 2017 U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens.

Roeg succeeded Mark PageHe has been coaching Raducanu informally since the Miami Open last March. Tennis Channel analyst Page agreed to work with Raducanu through the end of the court season but was unable to commit to coaching her full-time due to his TV commentary obligations.

Working alongside Page, who had coached Andy Murray, Raducanu achieved his best results in years.

During Roig’s brief tenure, Raducanu effectively played wide serves on the draw, setting up her first attack and trying to spread the court with her groundstrokes. Furthermore, Roeg tried to follow the Page model and ensured that Raducanu had fun in the process. Raducanu shared photos on social media of her playing soccer and golf with coach Roig.

However, Raducanu said she felt out of her depth on the court at times and even experimented with a Yonex racquet in the offseason in an attempt to find easier power, though she subsequently returned to the Wilson Blade.
