Erik and Lyle Menendez’s lawyers claim parole hearings were “manipulated”

“Obviously manipulated,” Geragos, 67, claimed on Saturday, August 23, when he appeared on TMZ’s “2 Angry Men” podcast. “It’s incredible that *** shows.”
Erik, 54, and Lyle, 57, were convicted of first-degree murder in 1996 after pleading guilty to killing their parents nearly 10 years ago. The siblings all claimed that their actions were outside of self-defense after years of abuse, but they were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
Los Angeles District Attorneys are excited to suggest the brothers in 2024 after Netflix’s documentary and script about Erik and Lyle piqued interest in the case. The judge reduced the May sentence to 50 years to the possibility of parole.
On Thursday, August 21, news broke that Erik was deprived of parole the day before Lyle’s hearing. Lyle stood before a different panel of parole commissioners on Friday, August 22, and they also advised not to be released on parole. The team specifically claimed that Lyle had suffered multiple phone violations in the time after jail.
“[It was a reporter who pointed out] Lyle actually likens cell phone activity to a commissioner of gang activity, which has to be a height of hypocrisy and talks about how it threatens corrections staff. [and] They have phone calls. They pay per minute. For-profit suppliers are the only ones who are profitable or financially affected by prison cell phone usage. ”
He added: “In this society, mobile phones will be the reason why you don’t go [and] In today’s AI era, you’re trying to talk about people coming out and making some kind of transition. Lyle’s record, in particular, is full of records, and he won’t fight back when he’s attacked in prison. ”

Geragos stressed that he had no evidence that the hearing was actually manipulated, but believed that Erik and Lyle should be good candidates for parole.
