NEW DELHI (Reuters) – The Indian Alloy Steel Manufacturers Association has filed an anti-dumping petition to the Federal Trade Ministry for cheap import taxes against China, telling Reuters on Monday.
India is the world’s second largest producer of crude oil steel, with the ability to use about 18 million to 20 million tons of alloy steel in the automotive, defense and aerospace sectors.
“China sells steel wire rods of alloy steel at very low prices, and imports have increased dramatically over the past three years, hurting local alloy steel producers,” said Anil Dhawan, Director General of the Association of Alloy Steel Manufacturers of India (ASPA).
Dhawan said alloy wire rods are mainly used in automobiles and their components.
Dawan said the anti-dumping petition was submitted to the General Administration of Trade Bureau on July 31, which belongs to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
ASPA members include JSW Steel, the largest steel manufacturer in India, as well as Jindal Steel, Kalyani Steels and Mukand Sumi Special Steel, among others.
In April, India imposed temporary tariffs of 12% on certain steel imports, known locally as safeguard obligations, to curb the surge in cheap goods mainly from China.
