Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the Championship for the first time at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin on Saturday night, where he ended the pursuit of the recently resurgent Felix Auger-Aliassim and set up a final against his arch-rival Jannik Sinner.
On Friday, Alcaraz received the ATP Year-End No. 1 trophy presented by the PIF and celebrated the achievement by playing against Auger-Aliassime. The 22-year-old had a job to do in front of an Inalpi Stadium crowd, producing several jaw-dropping moments to seal a 6-2, 6-4 win after one hour and 23 minutes.
Heading into a tour-leading 11th final of the year, the top seed is the first Spaniard since Rafael Nadal in 2013 to reach the championship match at the prestigious year-end tournament. Alcaraz is trying to become the first Spanish player to lift the trophy since Alex Corretja in 1998.
Alcaraz will rematch Sinner in Sunday’s championship match, a perfect end to an exciting 2025 ATP Tour season. The world No. 1 and No. 2 dominated the year, splitting all four majors and claiming 13 titles, including four ATP Masters 1000 trophies.
Alcaraz holds a 4-1 Lexus ATP head-to-head lead over Sinner this season (10-5 overall), but it won’t be easy to topple the Italian in his own backyard. Sinner has won 30 consecutive games indoors and will have a cheering home crowd behind him. The first game of the final is scheduled to take place on Sunday at 6pm CET, with both sides heading into the title race undefeated this week.
