Flavio Cobolli felt like a superhero at the Delray Beach Open.
The Italian third seed celebrated his first ATP Tour victory since January 4 by showing off his new tattoo to the crowd at the ATP 250 Hard Court event in Florida on Wednesday. Coboly, who defeated Terrence Altman 7-5, 6-4, was quick to attribute his victory to the unique green character now emblazoned on his right leg: The Hulk.
“In the Davis Cup [last year]you still remember me [ripped] “Now I have Hulk. It’s fresh, like it was two weeks ago,” Copoli, No. 20 in the PIF ATP rankings, said in an on-court interview. “I feel like the Hulk on the court.” [then]so now I have to be like him! ”

The tattoo was inspired by Coboli’s jersey-shredding celebration when he saved seven match points and won a 32-point tiebreaker over Zizou BergΓ¨s to seal Italy’s place in November’s Davis Cup final, which the European nation went on to win. He showed that on-court mettle again on Wednesday against Altman, bouncing back from a four-game losing streak to set up a quarterfinal matchup with Coleman Huang, who defeated Brandon Nakajima 6-4, 7-6(4).
“This is my first victory [for a while]so Iβm really happy to be in the middle of the court,β Coboli said after leveling his Lexus ATP Head2Head series 1-1 with Atmane. βIt was tough at the beginning of the year, but now Iβm really happy to be part of this great tournament.
“It’s a different outcome [to last time]. I lost to him in a great fight last time in Cincinnati. I trained well this week, spent a lot of time on the court and felt comfortable. I’m really happy that I beat a strong opponent like Terrence in the first round. ”
In other matches, second seed Caspar Rudd withstood a severe test from Marcos Giron and defeated the American 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-4. Geelong would regret falling two points behind at 6/6 in the second set tie-break.
Ruud then used his momentum to break the American’s serve in the first game of the deciding set before crossing the finish line. The 27-year-old, competing for the first time since the Australian Open, improved his record to 3-2 in the Lexus ATP Head2Head series against Geelong and will now look to extend his perfect 2-0 record against Sebastian Korda.
Ruud made his first appearance at the ATP 250 event in Delray Beach, where the Norwegian arrived just weeks after he and fiancΓ©e Maria welcomed their first child, a daughter.
Korda defeated compatriot Alex Michelson 6-3, 7-6(6) and saved four set points in the second set to avoid a tiebreaker and advance to the quarterfinals. The 25-year-old broke Michelsen at 4-5 in the second set and crucially regained serve after facing three set points. Koda once again resolved the set point with a score of 5/6 in the tie-break.
Korda, the No. 50 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, is the second player to reach three tour-level quarterfinals this season, joining Ben Shelton. Korda was a Delray Beach finalist in 2021.
