Former Sheriff Alex Villanueva registers in 2026 Sheriff’s Game

Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has registered a campaign committee for the November 2026 election to win his presidency.

Villanueva’s name is the largest name to date for losing the post of Sheriff Robert Luna in 2022. Luna has announced his plan to seek reelection.

Documents on the California Secretary of State website show that Veranueva, who has registered for the 2026 Sheriff’s Commission, has shown.

It is not clear when the documents will be submitted.

In a Saturday’s Times email, Veranueva did not immediately answer questions seeking his intentions, but said: “I will have something available next week.”

When Villanueva presided over a controversy and lawsuit, Luna took the relatively calm hand as an example.

However, Villanueva has performed well on its use of social media and appearances on broadcast platforms to weigh in on a wide range of issues concerning departments and county politics.
