French taxi driver accused of stealing and his wife from David Lammy
A taxi driver has been accused by French police of stealing luggage and cash from British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and his wife Nicola Green.
Last month, the driver took the couple to 600 kilometers (370 miles) on the Italian town of Welfare (370 miles) to head to the French ski resort last month.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said Ramy and his spouse were victims of the case and the driver was charged with theft after taking his luggage away.
It also denied that Tottenham's Labor MP refused to pay the driver.
Whitehall sources said there was no sensitive material in the couple's holiday luggage.
After the driver filed a complaint, prosecutors investigated Bonneville's “business dispute.”
Bonneville Attorney Boris Duffau told the BBC that the taxi driver was charged with theft.
He said: “The investigation has been conducted after the disagreement regarding taxi rides between Italy and France.
“After investigation by French police, the Bonneville Prosecutor’s Office has decided to prosecute the taxi driver, who was called to appear in Bonneville Court on November 3, 2025.
“He was charged with theft (baggage and cash) and harming Nicola Green and David Lindon Lammy.”
The driver told French media that when asked to pay 700 euros (£590) out of the 1,550 euro bill, Rami became “proactive” and the remaining bills would be paid by the booking service.
The fee was paid in advance for the transfer service, but the driver insisted that he was owed money on arrival and needed to be paid in cash.
Green was talking to a taxi driver when her husband entered the house, and she told police in a statement that she felt threatened and the driver showed her a knife in his debris box, according to PA News.
It is understood that after he left his luggage, a member of the Foreign Secretary's office contacted the driver to get it back and stored it in the police station with “quite” money, and Green's schoolbag was missing a sum of money.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “We completely refute these allegations. The fare is paid in full.
“The Foreign Secretary and his wife were appointed as victims in this matter and the driver was charged with theft.
“Because there is an ongoing legal process, it is inappropriate to comment inappropriately.”
