Continue to recover from back injuries, Caroline Garcia Withdrew from Mutua Open in Madrid.
The Mutua Madrid Open is scheduled to be held on April 21 at Caja Magica on April 4.
Two-time French open doubles champion Garcia announced that she had received social media treatment and recovered from a back injury, which prevented her from playing Madrid. Garcia's status at the WTA 1000 Championship in Rome next month is uncertain.
The Clay Court Grand Slam begins on May 25 in Paris.
“After more testing, it's obvious that I won't be able to play in Madrid,” Garcia wrote in an Instagram post. “I need to spend some time with treatment and recovery. I will do everything I can to prepare for Rome, but the main goal is to be strong and healthy for Roland Garros.
“It's hard to accept. After the break last year, I came back to feel happier, clearer, and more motivated. It turned out to be there, but I really believe in the path I'm going. This setback hurts, but I'll use it to be stronger.”
The 31-year-old Garcia has a record of 3-6 this year and has not played since losing to World 2 IGA Swiatek 6-2, 7-5 last month at the Miami Open.
Former world fourth-ranked Garcia has not competed in the clay court since the first round of the Paris Olympics held in Roland Garros last July.
