Gareth Edwards sees “Jurassic World Rebirth” as a metaphor for the film industry
Gareth Edwards knows one or two things about science fiction movies. and whether he is creating his own unique world, e.g. monster or Creatoror work in someone else’s work Godzilla or Rogue No. 1, The director thinks one thing links the entire genre together.
“[Sci-fi] The movie is never about the real meaning of spacecraft, robot or dinosaur,” he told IO9. “If it is, they would make no sense. them [only] When the whole thing compares to other things, it has meaning. ”
So, what’s Edwards’ latest movie Jurassic World Rebirth,analogy? While not obvious, Edwards discovered something he really connected to when he was preparing to get close to the material, which helped inspire him. “As a science fiction storyteller, you’re always looking for ‘What’s the hidden metaphor for the crazy sci-fi element?” “So I kind of went through this, ‘What the hell does that mean? This story is really a fabulous thing you put in your pocket?” In my opinion, dinosaurs are kind of like a movie. ”
Yes, dinosaurs are movies. Let him continue. “The idea of people going to the cinema slowly, do you know what I mean?” Edwards said. “They started trying different things to make them more fun, to make them more entertaining, and they created things that people couldn’t watch or watch. I felt like this, in a weird way, I got kicked out, and it was some kind of weird version of the situation we were in as filmmakers, where, like, I was excited about these things again, and then how did you get interesting?
Of course, Edwards is suggesting a lot. The decline of cinemas. The rise of streaming. Youtube. twitch. etc. But this also applies Jurassic On-screen and off franchise. When the original Jurassic Park Released, dazzling effects completely amaze the audience. But, in the decades since, similar effects have become the norm and audiences want more.
Then, in the 2015 film, the first in the latest trilogy, the story centers on a well-designed dinosaur to re-interest the boring audience. Now, by Jurassic World Rebirth, Dinosaurs are just a part of everyday life and are taken for granted. Like these big blockbuster movies. So Edwards wanted to use his films to build this up.
“My first movie was a monster movie in Central America and all of this, and the way I sold it to everyone at that time was where all the other monster movies ended,” he said. “It should be in King KongKing Kong landed in central New York and died…Imagine a movie, they are now trying to sort it out and clean it up. How do you move King Kong out of traffic? It’s very interesting and I’ve always loved this starting point. [One person’s] The end is someone else’s beginning. When I started reading the script, I was like, “Oh, it’s like a movie I really like, dealing with the end of another movie.”
