Geezer Butler recalls seeing “weak” Oz Osborne in the final rehearsal

“After we ran six or seven songs, we could see it exhausted him. We were a little chatting, but he was really quiet compared to Ozzy Of Old,” Butler said. “We’re ready for the show in a few more weeks.”

Butler noted that he was “very grateful” that Black Sabbath was able to last perform on July 5 at Villa Park in Birmingham, England. A few weeks later, news broke that Osborne was 71 years old after fighting Parkinson’s disease.

Osborne’s family shared with US Weekly Tuesday, July 22. “He is with his family, surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at the moment.”

One day later, Iommi, 77, told ITV News that he believed Osborne was “stick to the show” on July 5.

“Geezer and I were talking about it last night – we think he persisted and after that, he did and said goodbye to fans and it was really over,” the Black Sabbath guitarist told The Outlet on Wednesday, July 23.

Iommi continued, “I think he must have something to say, ‘Okay, this will be the last thing I’m going to do.” Whether he thinks he’s going to die or I don’t know, but he really wants to do it.

Although Iommi claimed that Osborne didn’t look so good during rehearsals, his teammate’s death was still “shocking”.

“We don’t want him to be there every day at the rehearsal because it’s too much. He just can’t stand it,” Iomi said. “They’ll take him in, he’ll sit down and sing a few songs, and then we talk about some trash old days, laugh, and then he goes.”
