Globe builds through a new network to enable the Internet to be accessed in disadvantaged areas

Globe now covers 96.13% of the Philippines’ population, its mobile network. According to the 2020 demographic, more than 106 million people can rely on mobile signals for calls, internet access and daily communication. Still, about 4.2 million Filipinos remain outside of coverage. These are places where Filipinos live in islands, mountainous areas, or lack of basic infrastructure, such as electricity, making it difficult to build digital infrastructure. Arriving at these people does present a challenge.

“There is still a lot of work to be done to bring high-quality connectivity to every Philippines. Globe is still fully committed to achieving this,” said Joel Agustin, senior vice president of network planning and engineering.

With continued construction, Globe hopes to increase its population coverage, as every advancement means more people are receiving important services and opportunities.

In 2024, Globe invested $56.2 billion in capital expenditure. Most of this is used to strengthen the network, building more than 1,200 new unit websites, upgrading more than 4,600 LTE to LTE, and upgrading nearly 600 new 5G sites.

This helps bring mobile coverage to the close-to-cosmic of the major cities: the full coverage of Metro Manila, while in the main cities of Mishaya and Mindanao, almost 97%.

Globe continues to focus on underserved areas, those with limited or no access. These are now prioritized in the company’s expansion plans. The goal is not only a broader impact, but a deeper impact, as for many communities, a stable mobile signal can open the door to education, livelihoods and business development.

“We are still targeted and strategic in network construction, focusing on promoting and enhancing the lives of more Filipinos and contributing to the development of the country,” Agustin said.

Even if the network grows, Globe should be careful not to ignore quality. It has been considered the most reliable mobile network in the country for the past three years, reflecting its ongoing efforts to provide as stable and reliable services as possible.

To reach communities where electricity remains unreliable or unavailable, Globe also uses off-grid and solar towers. Most importantly, the company works closely with local governments to speed up licensing and community coordination.

The work is far from over, but every new connection brings the country closer to ending the digital divide.
