Coco Gofu Before the U.S. Open, people were surprised.
The dominant Roland Garros champion has fired former coach Matt Daly The U.S. Open will be four days before Sunday begins. Goff keeps it Jean-Christophe Faurelher long-term coach gave her team. Faurel and Daly are in the box when Gauff drives out the world’s No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka during a stormy day in Roland Garros.
reporter Ben Rothenberg Daley’s strike was confirmed earlier today.
Today, Goff replaced Dali with a biomechanics coach in the U.S. Open Driving Field Gavin Macmillanhe worked with Sabalenka to fix her former willful service. Sabalenka credits Macmillan, showing off her flawed videos on serving and helping her correct it to a streamlined motion, which has moved her to the world number one and reached four of the past seven major finals.
The 2023 U.S. Open champion Gauff’s service plight hit a Nadir in Montreal this month, who coughed 43 doubles in three games on his way to the quarterfinals.
Goff committed 23 double malfunctions, almost a set of doubles – in her opener with Danielle Collins, but still relied on her perseverance and legs to complete a 7-5, 4-6 7-6 (2) victory in 56 minutes.
The WTA Finals champion confirmed her disappointment in service difficulties after she skipped Washington, D.C. to work extensively as a player in the North American hard lineup season. Goff said in Montreal that her serve was “on the crutch.”

Although the two-time Grand Slam champions had the ability to divide the service struggles, escaping the counterfeit matches and fighting the brutality of the matches, it was not held as the matches intensified in later matches. When Gauff lost his 18-year-old Canadian sensation Vicky Mboko in Montreal, the Canadian teen looked more comfortable than the Americans when serving.
“I mean, there are positive things, there are negatives,” Goff told the Montreal media. “Obviously, I was very disappointed with myself in that part of the game, just because I didn’t play DC to do it, changed it and did it well in practice and did it well in practice. Yes, I just wanted to get it transferred to the game.
“What this does give is, well, I’m winning these games, like part of me on a crutch, like I can stand on my feet, I can only imagine it will be easier for me, and easier.”
The July training block is months after Gauff worked with former No. 1 Andy Roddick in the offseason. Goff said she worked with Roddick, who tried to reduce her tossing to make serving easier to replicate under pressure. However, when Goff is tight, she sometimes wins the serve or puts the toss in front, and sometimes she is still trying to kick.
Is Goff’s press of the panic button so close to the start of the final Grand Slam of the season?
Or is a proactive Goff making the right and long action trying to solve the most obvious weakness in her game?
Analysts on a video conference call with the media today to promote ESPN’s U.S. public coverage, analysts Mary Joe Fernandez and Patrick McEnroe Both recognize Gauff’s decision as “wise moves” and “courageous moves” to try to improve rather than performing with a serving that is not currently working properly.
“She has a problem with serving and is trying to fix it.” ESPN analyst Mary Joe Fernandez Tell the media on today’s video conference call. “I think it’s a wise move to be successful with Sabalenka in Gavin.
“[Sabalenka] Questions through her service. She did not take a leave. She continued to compete, and a few years ago he joined her in events including the U.S. Open. So, I think this is a wise move by Coco. Let’s take a look. We’ll see if she has enough time here to work and sink into changes. We will find out what these changes have to her. ”
Former American Davis Cup Captain Patrick McEnroe The first step in solving the stroke problem is to acknowledge its existence and recognize Goff’s decision to change the coach.
“I think Coco used to be the courageous move to hire a new coach [the US Open],” Patrick McEnroe told the media. “It’s very unusual for top players [to do]. Tennis player, you are there yourself and don’t want to admit that you have weaknesses.
“The fact that she is so open: I need to solve this problem, I need to try to solve this problem. When she broke up with our Brad Gilbert, the last coach she hired should also be a technical coach.
“This guy is taking it to another level – the biomechanics coach she brings – obviously she thinks that can be solved. I believe it can. She is a great athlete and should be more solid, but now women are not playing as high as 2 guys as men with big 2. But, you’ll see a gap. The fourth seed that recently reached the final in the last year’s Open.”
When she won the U.S. Open and working with Brad Gilbert, Gauff chose a high proportion of the first game and relied on her backhand, legs and competitiveness to beat the opponent.
Now, Gauff is trying to rebuild the serve and use it as a weapon, just like when she first broke out to Wimbledon’s fourth round.
