Clip shows weapons captured by Myanmar rebel group, not Indian troops

Social media users shared the videotape wrongly claimed it showed cash and cash and weapons seized by Indian soldiers from gunmen in northeastern Manipur state. The scene in the video matches the image uploaded by the Facebook account that was associated with the Myanmar Rebels team in April 2025, after the fighter captured a small town in western Myanmar.

It shares a video showing armed men wearing uniforms, guarding cash, rifles and ammunition. The clip has been viewed over 26,500 times.

It was a false post surfaced after Indian troops said they killed ten gunmen and in an operation in Manipur Chandel district near the border with Myanmar on May 14 (a link to archive) in Chandel district in Manipur (a link to archive).

The state has been racially divided since May 2023, since the outbreak of deadly violence between the majority of Hindus Meitei and the mostly Christian Acranived Link.

The clip also spreads elsewhere on X and Facebook, but visual evidence suggests it comes from Burma, not India.

one Reverse image search Using the clip’s keychain reveals a Facebook page related to the Burmese Rebels Group (BNRA), a rebels group in Myanmar – shared the image on April 11 showing the same scene (a link to archive).

The Burmese language titles of the photos say they were taken after the group controlled the town of Faram, where the military government was in charge.

Myanmar media Myanmar has now also released images on April 9 showing the title of the scene, saying they show weapons from government forces (a link to archive).

Myanmar’s army seized power in the 2021 coup, triggering a civil war, comparable to democratic guerrillas and revived national armed groups that have long been active on the edge of Southeast Asian countries (archive link).
