Handelsblatt report
Story: Volkswagen and its Chinese partner SAIC will close the joint factory in the Chinese city of Nanjing.
According to a report on the daily Handelsblatt paper on Friday.
Quote several people familiar with the process. Production has stopped.
The closure will be carried out gradually in the second half of the year.
Volkswagen did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
Reuters reported in September that the German automaker is planning to stop production at its Nanjing factory and cited someone who knows the matter directly.
The man said at the time that the automaker would gradually transfer production of its Passat family cars from its Nanjing factory to nearby factories in the same province in Jiangsu.
Volkswagen, China’s best-selling automaker, has long declined its market share.
