Jannik Sinner’s hopes of winning the first place in the year-end ATP with PIF honors is declining.

Carlos Alcaraz retired in the third round of Sinner against Tallon Griekspoor at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, and he was fully in charge of his year-end battle with the Italians.

Alcaraz led Sinner with 2,540 points in the PIF ATP live match, a barometer of the first game at the end of the year. For the Italian, the honor is not completely out of reach, but he will need to keep the chance almost perfect for the rest of the season to have it.

Next, Sinner is scheduled to compete in Vienna ahead of the last ATP Masters in Paris this season and the Nitto ATP final in Turin. The 24-year-old can win up to 3,000 points in these events.

Alcaraz will next play in Paris and Nitto ATP finals, and if he doesn’t accept wildcards this season, he has a chance to score 2,500 points.

If Sina succeeded in defending the Rolex Shanghai Masters title, he would have earned 1,590 points from his competitor in a live game, giving him the ability to be the first at the end of the year at the end of the season. Instead, sinners need to chase the title and hope that Alkaraz will suffer early losses for the rest of the time.

According to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Alcaraz has a 67-7 record this season, while Sinner has a 43-6 record. The former is the first place at the end of 2022, and the latter is the year 2024.

No other player has the chance to win the PIF Honors Awards proposed by the ATP year-end.
