Landslides on the Vaishnav Devi track due to heavy rainfall; IMD predicts more rainfall in Jamu and Kashmir
On Monday, heavy rains up the mountain in the Jamu area caused a landslide on the Himkoti trail, which led to the sacred Mata Vaishno Devi shrine of Reasi Katra. The route is temporarily closed.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that rainfall in Jamu and Kashmir will increase in the past 24 hours.
Due to the closure of the track, battery vehicles and other vehicles transporting supplies and cargo cannot operate.
To remove debris scattered across the 30-foot area, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) quickly dispatched personnel and equipment.
So far, no casualties have been reported.
Slope slide in northeastern India
Train services between South Assam, Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram and other parts of the country have been suspended since Monday night on a landslide in the new Haflong-Jatinga Lampur section of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on a landslide that affects railway tracks.
NFR’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that due to the boulders, land quality in the new Haflong-Jatinga Lampur area fell on rail tracks, and train services in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill department must be suspended from Monday night to ensure safety of rail guests.
He said a landslide occurred due to the improper construction of the National Highway Administration of India (NHAI) to repair the road.
CPRO said road maintenance works are reportedly underway in the area and due to the result of work, the slope of the downstream side between the road and the railway line has expanded, forcing the entire mass to move towards the railway track.
Slope slides on Yamunotri walking route
One person was injured and two others were trapped after a landslide in Nau Kanchi in Uttarakhand Uttarakhand district, officials said on Monday.
Local authorities have launched a rescue operation to locate and explain those who are worried about being trapped under the debris.
