Jannik Sinner made it to the semi-finals of the Miami Open hosted by Itau several times in a row. The most important thing is that his 10-game winning streak dates back to Indian Wells. Two more wins and he would become the first player since Roger Federer in 2017 to win the Sunshine Double – winning Miami and Indian Wells – in the same season.
The PIF ATP No. 2 player also has a record-breaking 30-set ATP Masters 1000 win streak, dating back to his title win at the Rolex Paris Masters. Since the start of 2024, Sinner has won six straight against semifinal opponent Alexander Zverev. That includes a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the semifinals two weeks ago to win the Indian Wells title.
Zverev enjoyed a four-game winning streak against the Italians from 2020-23, but they now trail the Lexus ATP Head2Head series 4-7. The German was also dominant in Miami, dropping just one set in four wins – a third-round loss to Marin Cilic. Zverev delivered his most impressive performance in the quarterfinals, defeating No. 18 seed Francisco Cerundolo 6-1, 6-2.
Zverev has won three of four matches in Miami and has done so without facing a break point, according to Infosys ATP Statistics. He only lost serve once in the match. He needs more of the same to trouble sinners.
“Tomorrow will be the toughest test,” Zverev said after advancing to the 1,000m semifinals of the 25th ATP Masters. “I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been feeling good and hopefully that can continue.”
The German has the most ATP Masters 1000 wins in the past decade (105) and has reached the semi-finals in five of the last six events at this level. He will compete in the Miami semifinals for the third time, finishing runner-up in 2018. Never before had he reached the double semifinals in Indian Wells and Miami in the same season.

Sinner may be the only player on the South Florida Heat who is hotter than Zverev. The Italian produced the tournament’s most impressive result in a 6-2, 6-2 win over local favorite Frances Tiafoe on Wednesday, conceding just nine points on serve and hitting 14 aces in eight service games.
After winning eight titles in a breakout 2024 season and six last year, he now seeks a second title this season.
“Going to be hungry [for more success]I think it’s natural,” Sinner said after advancing to the Miami semifinals for the fourth time in five matches. “Mentally you have to stay calm and relaxed off the court because I’ve been playing a lot of tennis in the last three or four weeks with all the practices and everything. I’m trying to move on. I know this is my last hard court match on clay, so I’m happy to be in the semifinals again. “
Sinner had never lost a complete game before the Miami final, although he retired in the 2022 semifinals against Cerundolo. He has dropped just one set on his way to the 2024 title and is now on a 10-match winning streak at the event.
Since Sinner has not defended any PIF ATP ranking points this year, he is within 1,540 points of world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz. The trophy will also bring him within 50 points of the Spaniard at the PIF ATP live event in Turin.
Zverev will overtake Novak Djokovic to return to third place in the PIF ATP Rankings next week after the semi-finals and could beat Sinner at the PIF ATP Live Event in Turin to overtake Daniil Medvedev for third place. After winning the championship, he narrowed the gap to second-placed Sinner to 10 points.
The winner of the semi-final showdown between the second and third seeds will enter the championship as firm favorites against either Arthur Fiers or Jiri Lehka, both of whom are seeking to reach their first ATP Masters 1000 final.
