Illinois' culture facing trans athlete problems

Illinois has become the latest blue state to ensure trans athletes can participate in girls’ sports. Republicans in the state are actively trying to change that.

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced it will not comply with President Donald Trump's executive orders to separate trans athletes from women's and women's sports.

In an open letter to state Republican lawmakers, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and the Illinois Department of Human Rights have announced that state law requires transgender athletes to be allowed to participate based on gender identity.

Illinois is using a similar script with Maine’s script in its ongoing dispute with the Trump administration over the issue, citing the state’s human rights laws as a barrier to biotic men from girls’ movements.

“Because of the above provisions, compliance with executive orders may render the IHSA incompliant with the Illinois Human Rights Act and vice versa,” IHSA's chairman Dan Tully wrote in the letter.

Tully added that the IHSA found itself in a “untenable position” as the group sought conflicting instructions on national authorities and the Trump administration.

“The increasing number of narratives are trying to politicize the IHSA's response. However, as clearly explained in the copy of the letter provided below, the IHSA is seeking clarification of conflicting state and federal laws so that we can maintain compliance.”

Republican lawmakers in Illinois sent their own letter to the IHSA in March asking what actions the bodies will take to change policies after Trump’s executive order is passed. Since 2011, trans athletes have been allowed to participate in girls’ sports in Illinois.

In response to the IHSA's recent announcement, several prominent state Republican lawmakers opposed the rule.

Rep. Blaine Wilhour led the initiative to send the first letter to the IHSA and told Fox News Digital that he called on the Illinois school district and school board to pass a local resolution to ban transgender athletes from participating in girls’ sports.

“I think every school district needs to make it clear that we are protecting the sanctity of the girl movement and we believe in local control of these decisions,” Will Hall said. “I ask all your local districts to take that position and do that. Because when pushing forward, we win on these issues, but we just need people to be bold, go out and do the right thing.”

Wilhour condemned Gov. JB Pritzker and the democratic majority in the state's legislature, which has laws that make trans women's sports. Wilhour added that he is calling on the Trump administration to intervene and potentially cut funding.

“The whole policy is sick. Either you believe in fair competition or don't participate. Today's Democrats, especially JB Pritzker, don't believe in fair competition. They put the awakened ideology in the protection movement, not in the protection movement.”

Maine girl who participates in the cross-sports reveals how state policies harm her childhood and sports career

“[The Trump administration is] Will have to participate here, and the leverage they have is federal funding. We get millions of dollars in federal funds from the government every year. And we didn’t really taste what we were going to keep. …But I will have a chance to do the right thing. …It is the right thing to prohibit boys from participating in girls’ sports, so we need to do the hard things to achieve this. ”

Will Hall also encouraged the IHSA to overturn state guidance and ban transgender athletes from participating in women's sports anyway.

Maine has seen the types of interventions that are being called upon by both internal and federal governments.

Maine District 70 moved away women's sports and comply with Trump, who violated state laws earlier this week.

Maine has also seen federal funds cut by the USDA, which has filed lawsuits against the state for ongoing violations of Trump’s orders.
