Kawasaki IT companies should be positioned in Cebu ecozone

The Philippine Economic Zone Administration (PEZA) said that Kawasaki Automobile Development Center Cebu Company (KMDCI) has registered as an Economic Zone Information Technology (IT) enterprise in Cebu.
In a social media post, Peza said KMDCI signed its registration agreement on April 15 to operate at the Oakridge IT center in Mandaue City.
“With the support of PEZA and its enabling business ecosystem, KMDCI will introduce advanced technological solutions to enhance local innovation and contribute to the Philippine economy in the future,” Pezza said.
Tereso O. Panga, Director General of PEZA, said the operation of KMDCI will help improve Cebu's position as an IT and R&D (R&D) hub while promoting inclusive and sustainable economic development throughout the region.
“It's also how they test the waters in preparation for building manufacturing plants in the country,” he said through Viber.
Oakridge IT Center Towers currently has three locators, generating 32 jobs and an export of $884,345.66.
In addition to Kawasaki, IT Center also expects US company DIS Tech Philippines to enter.
According to Mr. Panga, U.S. companies will provide knowledge-based and computer-based support services, including engineering and architectural design services, consulting firms, and design of printed circuit board and substrate interfaces in the semiconductor industry.
In the first quarter, PEZA approved PET worth 58.947 billion fini, an increase of nearly four times compared to the same period last year.
It approved 66 new and expanded projects, with investments involving 294.3% year-on-year.
This year, Peza hopes to approve an investment commitment worth Phillipino pesos 25 billion. If realized, this will increase by 16.7% from the P214.118 billion approved in 2024. – Justine Irish D. Table
