India is our top smartphone supplier; union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the electronics sector soared

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Sunday that India has become the top supplier of US smartphones, with the electronics manufacturing industry now worth Rs 1.2 lakh.

Vaishnaw stressed the government’s vision, saying at the conquest ceremony of the metro project in Bengaluru that India’s electronic production has increased six times in the past 11 years.

The Railways Minister further pointed out that the exponential growth of electronic exports, which increased by 8 times to Rs 3 lakh. Vaishnaw also pointed out that India is the world’s second largest mobile phone manufacturer, emphasizing the country’s developmental role in the global electronics market.

Vaishnaw said the growth reflects India’s commitment to becoming a global hub for technology production, making advanced electronics more widely available and supporting the Prime Minister’s goal of integrating technology for all citizens.

“Our electronic production has grown six times in the past 11 years. Today, electronic manufacturing has hit Rs 12 billion. Electronic exports have grown 8 times … Today, it has grown to Rs 3 lakh. India has become the second largest manufacturer of mobile phones in the world,” he said.

India has made significant progress in mobile and electronics manufacturing, becoming the world’s second largest mobile manufacturer, according to official government data. In 2014, India had only 2 mobile manufacturing units, but fast forward to today, the country has over 300 manufacturing units, highlighting the significant expansion of this important industry.

In 2014 – only 26% of the 15 mobile phones sold in India were made in India, while the rest were imported. It is worth mentioning that 99.2% of all mobile phones sold in India today are made in India. The manufacturing value of mobile phones has soared from Rs 189 billion in fiscal 2014 to a staggering Rs 422 million in fiscal 24.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tagged three Vande Bharat trains earlier today – Ajni (Nagpur) – Pune Vande Bharat, KSR Bengaluru-Belgavi Vande Bharat and Shree Mata Vaishnodevi Katra-katra katra-amritsar katra-katra katra-amritsar bharat.

With these additions, Vaishnaw released on X that the country’s Vande Bharat train total will increase to 150 (75 pairs).
