India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire after a 90-hour standoff throughout the land, air and ocean. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India (MEA) confirmed the development in a statement issued by Foreign Minister Vikram Misri. According to the official update, the ceasefire came into effect at 5 pm on May 10, following a telephone conversation by the Director-General of Pakistan Military Operations (DGMO) with his Indian counterparts at 15:35 hours.
What triggered the ceasefire?
Although details of the incident that led to the 90-hour confrontation remained undisclosed, both countries quickly moved to downgrades. Officials said both sides sent instructions to stop the operation. The next DGMO-level meeting is scheduled to be held on December 12 noon on May 12, indicating that channel diplomacy is still continuing.
