Love is in the air at the United Cup.
Fed Cup Australia team members Jason Kubler and Maddison Inglis got engaged on Rottnest Island last month.
“It was so exciting. I didn’t anticipate the next hour. I was so nervous. It was crazy. It felt like we were on a first date all over again,” Kubler said. “I’m glad I did it. I’m glad Maddie said yes, which is great.”
The long-term partners have spent the past month in Perth and the highlight was their involvement. This is a moment they will never forget.
“It was very exciting, especially being in Perth. It was our first time in Rotto,” Inglis said. “It’s a very special place and really exciting.
“It’s great to spend these few weeks together and enjoy it. Yeah, it’s really exciting for us to be part of the Australian team. We’re looking forward to it.”
The highlight of Australia’s press conference was the pair discussing their engagement, egged on by Alex De Minaur.
But now it’s about the home team. Kubler and Inglis are the second-ranked singles players on their respective national teams and will do their best to help Australia win the Federation Cup for the first time.
It’s also a chance for them to stay together – at least for another week.
“We rarely get to play the same games. When we can, we try,” Kübler said. “It’s going to be very special to start the new year together playing for Team Australia and supporting these guys. We’re looking forward to the week.”
